OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the therapeutic effects of phacoemulsification and posterior chamber intraocular lens implantation combined with trabeculectomy (triple procedure) in patients with glaucoma and cataract. METHODS: Triple procedure was performed by means of scleral tunnel flap in 82 eyes of 76 patients. The follow-up period was three to 12 months. RESULTS: The range of postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) was 9.2-22.5 mmHg (1 mmHg = 0.133 Kpa), 67 eyes (74.4%) were ≤ 16 mmHg; 45 eyes (54.9 %) had a best corrected visual acuity of ≥ 0.5. Functional filtering blebs were found in 53 eyes 64.6%). CONCLUSION: The triple procedure is effective for improving the visual acuity and reducing IOP in patients with glaucoma and cataract.
