A call for caution with the election of this treatment as strategy to overcome visual diseases has to be considered

In this paper Tagami et al. suggest that transcorneal electrical stimulation (TES) promotes regeneration of adult rat crushed retinal ganglion cells axons along the non-permissive environment of the optic nerve. However, the longest distance from the lesion site at which this regeneration is observed is very short (250 μm), with an average of 8 CTB-labeled axons crossing the injury, this in the best of scenarios that is the daily TES regime. Overall, the data presented is not sufficient to conclude that this technique promotes regeneration. The statistics between promotion of axonal regeneration and the number of TES applications is weak. Finally, in accordance with the authors, the regeneration degree showed in the results has to be taken with reserve and from a clinical point of view. A call for caution with the election of this treatment as strategy to overcome visual diseases has to be considered
