AIM: To evaluate the therapeutic effects of external trabeculotomy combined with trabeculectomy in treating congenital glaucoma. METHODS: Seven cases (14 eyes) of congenital infantile glaucoma were treated with external trabeculotomy combined with trabeculectomy. The average period of follow-up was 18mo. RESULTS: After operations, the IOP in 14 eyes turned down to normal after 7d. The IOP in 13 eyes was controlled in normal during the follow-up, the success rate of the operation being 92%. The common complication was slight hyphema which was totally absorbed within 1-4d without influence on the final outcome. CONCLUSION: External trabeculotomy combined with trabeculectomy is safe and effective for treating congenital infantile glaucoma. LA: Chinese
