OBJECTIVE: To observe the findings of ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) of the anterior chamber angle closure. METHODS: Fifty eyes from 45 patients with anterior chamber angles closure estimated by gonioscopy were observed using UBM, including 5 eyes with neovascular glaucoma, 22 eyes with acute angle-closed glaucoma and 23 eyes with chronic angle-closure glaucoma. RESULTS: Four different types of manifestations under UBM were found in anterior chamber angle in all patients. Type 1 showed the anterior chamber angle closure completely, and the iris was adhered to the trabecular meshwork. Type 2 exhibited a closed completely anterior chamber angle because of forward rotation of the ciliary body. Type 3 displayed the iris adhering to the entrance of the anterior chamber angle, and type 4 showed a narrow entrance of anterior chamber angle because of the bombing of iris. CONCLUSION: UBM gives us a new approach to the diagnosis of glaucoma. It is helpful for us to explore the etiology of the glaucoma. LA: Chinese
