AIM: To observe the clinical effect of releasable sclera flap sutures on the trabeculectomy. METHODS: In the trabeculectomy, a pair of tight releasable sutures was made at each side of the sclera flap and about 1 mm of the suture end was left from the limbus cornea. Five-21 days after surgery the releasable sutures were removed according to the anterior chamber condition. RESULTS: In all of the 78 cases (84 eyes), no shallow anterior chamber was seen during the first three days after surgery. Six days after surgery, I grade of shallow anterior chamber occurred in five eye after the sutures were removed, but was recovered with treatment. Twenty-one days after surgery the intraocular pressure (IOP) was controlled to 5.3-12.6 mmHg in all eyes. CONCLUSION: Releasable sclera flap sutures can effectively accommodate IOP, reduce the occurrence of postoperative shallow anterior chamber and improve surgical successful rate. LA: Chinese
