The authors performed trabeculectomy using mitomycin C (MMC) on three eyes of two patients with glaucoma due to Stevens-Johnson syndrome. In all three eyes, there was symblepharon formation and shortening of the cul-de-sac. The authors separated the conjunctiva from the sclera to fully expose the sclera. Because of inadequate conjunctiva, they sutured a portion of the conjunctival flap directly to the sclera. In the period following the operation, good blebs were maintained. There was temporary leakage of aqueous fluid in one eye, but the wound healed after a week. Corneal epithelial disorder was not affected by trabeculectomy using MMC, but it improved, as did corrected visual acuity, when anti-glaucoma drugs were stopped. Trabeculectomy using MMC is effective for glaucoma due to Stevens-Johnson syndrome.LA: Japanese
