A retrospective analysis was performed in 27 files from subjects with the diagnosis of congenital glaucoma, with several previous surgical techniques or topical medication for intraocular pressure control, and who undergone surgery for Ahmed valve implantation between 1994 and 1998 at the Glaucoma Service of the Hospital Para Evitar la Ceguera en Mexico. Thirty-two eyes were registered, five were the contralateral eyes, and nine did not meet the inclusion criteria. A total of 18 eyes were analyzed: 11 left and seven right. The mean number of previous ocular surgeries was 3.1 and the mean number of topical medications 2.33, with a mean follow-up of 21.5 months. Fifteen subjects (83.3%) had had previous glaucoma surgery and at least 14 had had two or more surgeries. Complications were present in eight cases, the most common being serous ciliochoroidal detachment in six cases and bad drainage in two cases. Complete success in controlling the intraocular pressure was seen in four (22.2%), qualified success in eight (44.4%), qualified failure in four (22.2%), and complete failure in two (11.1%) cases. The success rate was 66.6% and the failure rate 33.4%. LA: Spanish
