AIM: To compare the topographic parameter optic discs and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) appearance in normal, suspected open angle glaucoma (SOAG) and primary open angle glaucoma (POAG)measured by Heidelberg retina tomography and Stratus optical coherence tomography 3000, and to access the value of HRT-II. METHODS: The tomography of optic nerve head of 43 normal subjects, 48 cases with SOAG and 55 cases with POAG were examined by using HRT-II and OCT3, and all eyes were detected by Oculus Easyfield perimetry. Topographic HRT-II parameters (DA, RA, RV, C/DAR, C/D, CSM, mRNFL and RNFLA) and OCT3 mean RNFL thickness at random of the three groups were compared. The correlation between HRT-II and OCT3, and that between mean devation (MD) of visual field and HRT-II or OCT3 were also analyzed. RESULTS: The optic disc parameters obtained by HRT-II and RNFL obtained by OCT3 showed significant difference (P < 0.05). In POAG group, all optic disc parameters of HRT-II and OCT3 mean RNFL thickness had marked correlation (P < 0.05) and were correlated with in MD with various degrees. CONCLUSION: Both HRT-II and OCT3 can differentiate glaucomatous from nonglaucomatous eyes. The disc topographic parameters of HRT-II correspond to RNFL thickness of OCT3 and correlated with MD.
