AIM: To investigate the variety of the psychological characteristic comparing pre-operative time with post-operative time of the patients with primary glaucoma. METHODS: Sixty-two patients with primary glaucoma (including eight patients with primary open-angle glaucoma and fifty-four patients with primary angle-closure glaucoma) were investigated with Hamilton Anxiety Scale (HAMA) and State-trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale for Depression (HRSD) and Self-Rating Depression scale (SDS), Mania Rating Scale (MRS), when they were in pre-operative time as well as two-day-post-operative time and one-month-post-operative time. RESULTS: Comparing the pre-operative time with the two-day-post-operative time, expect the scores of the A2 factor in HAMA, B4 factor in HRSD and B5 factor in HRSD were not significantly different, the others were significantly different (P <0.05). Comparing the preoperative time with the one-month-post-operative time, expect the scores of the A2 factor in HAMA and B3 factor in HRSD were not significantly different, the others were significantly different (P <0.05). This result showed that the psychological characteristic varied clearly comparing the pre-operative time with the post-operative time of the patients with primary glaucoma. Comparing the two-day-post-operative time with the one-month-post-operative time, expect the scores of B2 factor in HRSD, B5 factor in HRSD and maniac factor (C) in MRS were significantly different, the others were not significantly different (P< 0.05). CONCLUSION: The psychological characteristic is various largely comparing the pre-operative time with the post-operative time of the patients with primary glaucoma. And with the improvement of the state of illness, the mood of the patients is more and more sable. LA: Chinese
