AIM: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of trabeculectomy for glaucoma in high intraocular pressure in persistent. RESULTS: All patients were followed up for 2-12 months, the IOP of 34 eyes (85%) were lower than 21 mmHg without any anti-glaucoma drug after the operation one month. After using part medicine IOP of 5 eyes (12%) were controlled. Visual acuity was improved in 21 eyes, kept the same in 10 eyes. No serious complications were found except malignant glaucoma. CONCLUSION: Surgery for glaucoma with persistant ocular hypertension is safe and effective. To keep the visual function from more damage, surgery should be performed for these patients actively.
