AIM: To evaluate the curative effect of posterior scleral marsupialization on absolute glaucoma. METHODS: Fourty-three patients of absolute glaucoma were operated with posterior scleral marsupialization. Thirty-eight patients were treated with cyclocryotherapy. The intraocular pressures was observed for 3 years and compared two groups in 2 months after operation. RESULTS: Posterior scleral marsupialization was especially advantageous to control the abnormal intraocular pressures in early stage after operation. It was more effective than the treatment with cyclocryotherapy (P < 0.01). CONCLUSION: The operation is a simple, safe and effective choice in treating absolute glaucoma. LA: Chinese
