AIM: To investigate the application of releasable suture in combined phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy. METHODS: Sixty-eight patients (75 eyes) with glaucoma and cataract were randomly divided into observation group (40 eyes) and control group(35 eyes). Observation group accepted phacoemulsification intraocular lens implantation, trabeculectomy and releasable suture; control group accepted phacoemulsification, intraocular lens implantaion and trabeculectomy. All patients were followed up for 3-12 months postoperatively. RESULTS: There was no statistical significance of the postoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) between two groups. There was no marked difference of the postoperative early visual acuity between two groups. However, After 6-12 months follow-up, the visual acuity of observation group and control group occured statistical difference. And the effusion in anterior chamber of two groups occured statistical difference too. CONCLUSION: Effusion in anterior chamber decreased, and IOP can be stepped down by application of releasable suture in combined phacoemulsification and trabeculectomy. LA: Chinese
