AIM: To observe the circumstance of postoperative intraocular pressure, visual acuity, anterior chamber angle and anterior chamber depth in cataract patients with angle-closure glaucoma in both preclinical and presymptom phases after simple phacoemulsification. METHODS: Thirty-five cases (35 eyes) combined with angle-closure glaucoma patients with cataract underwent phacoemulsification, and the diversity of visual acuity, intraocular pressure, anterior chamber angle and anterior chamber depth after operation were followed up. RESULTS: Postoperative visual acuity was between 0.3-0.8. The first day after operation , intraocular pressure mildly increased only in three cases (22-28mmHg). A week after treatment and observation, intraocular pressure returned to normal in two cases, yet intraocular pressure in one eye still increased to 27mmHg, which was treated with local application of medicine and no further surgery. CONCLUSION: Phacoemulsification is a simple and effective way to restore vision and control intraocular pressure in cataract patients combined with angle-closure glaucoma. LA: Chinese
