Moraxella nonliquefaciens, a commensal organism of the upper respiratory tract, is generally considered to have low pathogenic potential. The authors report two cases of severe endophthalmitis occurring nine years and two months after glaucoma filtration surgery, respectively. Apart from sulfonamide, very low MICs were recorded for several antibiotics tested. Identification was based on phenotypic characteristics in combination with sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene.
