The authors substituted 0.5% timolol maleate with nipradilol eye drops in the treatment of 20 eyes of 12 glaucoma patients. The series comprised 16 eyes with primary open-angle glaucoma and four eyes with steroid glaucoma. The follow-up averaged 4.1 ± 2.1 months. The intraocular pressure (IOP) averaged 15.5 ± 2.8 mmHg before substitution. There was no difference in IOP after substitution. Humphrey perimetry showed significantly increased mean deviation and significantly reduced pattern standard deviation after substitution. These findings show that substitution of topical timolol with nipradilol may induce improvements in glaucomatous visual field. LA: Japanese
