PURPOSE: To evaluate the clinical effect of trabeculectomy combined amniotic membrane transplantation in refractory glaucoma. METHODS: Seventeen eyes of 16 patients with uncontrolled glaucoma underwent trabeculectomy combined amniotic membrane transplantation. Mean follow-up was 11.2 months (3~24 months). RESULTS: Mean preoperative intraocular pressure (IOP) was 39.72 ± 7.26 mmHg, which decreased to a mean postoperative IOP of 14.62 ± 3.72 mmHg (p < 0.001). There was an obvious diffusion bleb in each eye three months after operation, functional blebs in 16 eyes six months after operation, and functional blebs in 14 eyes. The anterior chamber reaction was mild. CONCLUSION: Trabeculectomy combined amniotic membrane transplantation is a safe and effective method for refractory glaucoma.
