AIM: To evaluate the clinical results of anterior lens capsule implantation in trabeculectomy combined with cataract surgery. METHODS: A total of 30 cases (30 eyes) with primary angle-closure glaucoma and cataract were randomly divided into 2 groups. Anterior lens capsule implantation in trabeculectomy with small-incision cataract surgery was performed on 15 eyes (experimental group) and mitomycin C (0.33g/L) application in trabeculectomy with small-incision cataract surgery on other 15 eyes (control group). The local contact time was from 1 to 4 minutes according to pachynsis of bulbar conjunctiva and fascia. The follow-up time was ranged from 6 to 12 months. The effects of visual acuity, intraocular pressure, filtration bubble, corneal endothelial cells density, achievement ratio of operation and complications were analyzed. RESULTS: There was no significant difference on the rate of functional bleb formation, achievement ratio of operation visual acuity, intraocular pressure, corneal endothelial cells density and complications between experimental and control group. There was significant difference on kinds of bleb formation between these two groups. CONCLUSION: Anterior lens capsule implantation in trabeculectomy with cataract surgery can control intraocular pressure effectively, long-term sustain functional filtration bubble satisfactorily. Compared to the control group, anterior lens capsule implantation presents less complications. LA: Chinese
