Help & Tips
Operators:
You may enhance your search experience by the use of the below mentioned operators.
Operator
|
Example
|
Effect
|
|
glaucoma perimetry |
Find records that contain at least one of the two words. |
+...+... |
+glaucoma +perimetry |
Find records that contain both words. |
+... |
+glaucoma perimetry |
Find records that contain the word glaucoma, but rank records higher if they also contain perimetry.
|
+...- |
+glaucoma -perimetry |
Find records that contain the word glaucoma but not perimetry. |
+...~... |
+glaucoma ~perimetry |
Find records that contain the word glaucoma, but if the record also contains the word perimetry, rate it lower than if record does not. This is softer than a search for '+glaucoma -perimetry', for which the presence of perimetry causes the record not to be returned at all. |
...* |
glaucoma* |
Find records that contain words such as glaucoma, glaucomatologist, etc. The * can only be added at the end of a word, therefore making a syntax as *coma invalid. |
"..." |
"glaucoma in Asia" |
Find records that contain the exact phrase glaucoma in Asia (for example, records that contain normal pressure glaucoma in Asia but notglaucoma in southeast Asia). |
Using any other operators than the ones listed above will have no effect.
Limits
There are several limitations which you can use to refine your search, when searching in the abstract database. All limits will be ignored if the Search in parameter is set to Editor's Selection.
Limit name
|
Effect
|
Comment in Editor's Selection |
Depending on the selection, all abstracts (unchecked), or only abstracts where experts made a comment on in the Editor's Selection (checked), are matched against your query. |
Year |
With this limitation abstracts within a certain year may be matched against your query. It is also possible to enter ranges, for example >2004 (only abstracts published after 2004 are searched) or >2000 <2004 (abstracts published after 2000 but before 2004 are searched). The > and < can only be used once each. Separate them with a space when using them together and make sure there is no space between < or > and the year. >= or <= can not be used. |
Top journals |
The editors of IGR have composed a list of top journals. You may limit your search to only those top journals (top only), only non-top (non-top only) or all journals (both). This should be set to both if you would like to use the Journals limit below. Click here for the list of top journals. |
Classification Limit Type |
Only applicable when multiple Classifications are selected as a limit. 'Or' will result in a search where limit one or two, etc may apply, while 'and' will search only those abstracts that are classified with all Classifications selected. Please note that and 'and' search will radically limit the number of abstracts to be searched since many abstracts have only one classification |
Classification |
You may specify the Classification(s) to which your search should be limited. Please note that if, for example, you select Classification 1, this will automatically include the sub classifications (1.1, 1.2 etc.) |
