General aspects: Glaucoma as cause of blindness

Resnikoff et al. (23) present global data on visual impairment in the Bulletin of the WHO. They estimated that close to 40 million people were blind worldwide. The burden of visual impairment is largest in the least developed countries and is usually confined to the elderly (over 50 years). Cataract remains cause number one AND GLAUCOMA TAKES A SOLID SECOND PLACE even before ARMD.
