13003 Electrophysiological assessment of glaucomatous visual dysfunction during treatment with cytidine-5'-diphosphocholine (citicoline): a study of 8 years of follow-up, Parisi V, Documenta Ophthalmologica, 2005; 110: 91-102

Parisi (892) presents the eight-year follow-up of a clinical study of 15 glaucomatous patients treated with the neuroprotectant citicoline (CDP-choline), comparing them to 15 placebo-treated controls. Electrophysiological measures (visual evoked responses and pattern electroretinogram) were endpoints. The signficant difference between groups was sustained, suggesting that citocoline may have been helpful. Like all small studies of this type, especially with an endpoint other than visual field, it is difficult to assess how extrapolatable these results are in general, and highlight the need for large-scale randomized studies.
