  • In patients with early-onset developmental glaucoma who underwent glaucoma surgery, the prognosis of visual acuity was related to the age at the first operation, the number of times of operation by 10 years old, and presence of nystagmus.
  • In isometric exercise, a statistical significant increase of the intraocular pressure during a load of 90% 1RM was observed, which related to the magnitude of systemic blood pressure changes but did not relate to the concentration of lactic acid or that of catecholamines.
    NB Compare IOP and lifestyle.
  • Patients with diabetes mellitus with relatively high concentration (HbA1c ≥8.0%) of blood sugar had statistically significant higher intraocular pressures (16.6 ± 2.4 mmHg) than did those with mild concentration (HbA1c ≤6.5%) of blood sugar (15.5 ± 2.5 mmHg).
  • Intraocular pressure rise after triamcinolone treatment was dose dependent in a multicenter, retrospective study. Furthermore, multiple applications of triamcinolone clearly increased the number of patients with an intraocular pressure ≥ 24 mmHg.
  • During a follow-up period of 5 years, 5 (16%) of 31 patients with large cup disc (C/D ratio > 0.7) without increased intraocular pressure or visual field damages developed normal-tension glaucoma. The mean deviation of FDT in such eyes was statistically significantly low.
  • In 4 patients with high-myopia and primary angle-closure glaucoma, the axial length was ranged from 22.6 mm to 29.9 mm, and the anterior chamber depth was ranged from 1.06 mm to 2.66 mm. Two were due to pupillary block, one due to plateau iris syndrome, and one due to ciliochoroidal effusion as found by ultrasound biomicroscopy.
  • Using Fourier domain optical coherence tomography, the 3-dimensional structure of laminar pores could be reconstructed.
  • Using Cryptochrome 1 & 2 (clock genes) double knockout mice, it has been demonstrated that diurnal variation of intraocular pressure in mice is regulated by those clock genes.
  • In an ischemic model of the mice in which autofluorescent protein is expressed in the retinal ganglion cells, reduction of the number of retinal ganglion cells over time could be noninvasively observed.
  • Tafluprost relaxed the smooth muscle of rabbit ciliary artery in a dose dependent manner. This effect did not seem to be dependent on mechanisms related to the endothelium of the vessel.
