The World Glaucoma Association (WGA) will be undergoing a leadership change as of January 1, 2008. Ivan Goldberg of Sydney, Australia will complete his two-year term as President and will be succeeded by Remo Susanna Jr. of Sao Paulo, Brazil. Dr. Goldberg will remain on the WGA Board of Governors as Past President.
There will be a restructuring of the WGA Executive Vice President (EVP) Office with four individuals replacing two. Since the founding of the Association of International Glaucoma Societies which subsequently became the WGA in 2007, Erik Greve and Caroline Greve-Geijssen have served in the role of Executive Vice President. While Dr. Greve was the first EVP followed by Dr. Greve-Geijssen, both shared the responsibilities of this position through out the period during which the WGA grew from an idea to the largest glaucoma organization in the world. As of January 1, 2008, the new EVP will be Kuldev Singh of the United States of America. He will be joined by a capable group of Associate Executive Vice Presidents: Tin Aung from Singapore, Jonathan Crowston from Australia and Tarek Shaarawy from Switzerland, each of whom will play a critical role in the growth of the organization. It is hard to imagine the WGA without the leadership of Drs. Greve and Greve-Geijssen and it is the hope of the new officers, Board of Governors and the global glaucoma as a whole that both will continue to provide guidance and leadership in the coming years. Dr. Greve will remain on the Board of Governors as Vice-President.
