We have done it. With publication of this issue of IGR 14-1 we are happy to inform you that International Glaucoma Review (IGR) is now under the auspices of the World Glaucoma Association (WGA) and serves as the official WGA publication. It remains under the capable editorship of Professor Robert N. Weinreb.
One of the major priorities of the WGA is worldwide glaucoma education. The print issues of IGR and the online resources are an important tool in order to pursue this aspect of our mission.
The major educational undertaking of WGA is, of course, the World Glaucoma Congress. Our 5th Congress will take place in Vancouver, July 17-20, 2013. Preparations for the educational program are in full swing and so are the logistical arrangements. While writing this text, I am on an airplane returning from our final site visit in Vancouver over this week. Many industry partners have confirmed their participation and several attended the site visit. It is clear that Vancouver is looking forward to hosting the World Glaucoma Congress and is motivated to make this a special and rewarding experience. For the first time we have plans to extend the life cycle of the WGC-2013 congress content by capturing the content of key symposia and courses. It is our intent to make these available online after the congress via the WGA website. Watch for further details. Get your abstracts ready. Starting November 1, 2012, abstract submission and registration will be possible via www.worldglaucoma.org. The 9th WGA Consensus Meeting will be held on July 16, 2013, one day before the start of the WGC. The topic this year is Childhood Glaucoma. For more information and registration details, please contact the WGA Executive Office via info@worldglaucoma.org.
World Glaucoma Week 2013 is March 10-16. Please mark your calendar! It
is not too early to start planning activities. The theme for next years
edition is:
The world is a wonder
to see every day -
so don't
let glaucoma
get in the way
