  1. In genetics, LOXL1 variants are associated with risk of exfoliation. The high risk haplotype (GG) was found in: 1) 66% of definite XFS/XFG; 2) 25% of XFS suspects; 3) 25% of those without XFS. Denmark, England, and the Netherlands have similar prevalence of LOXL1 polymorphism as Finland. Greece and Iceland, however, have a much lower prevalence of XFS/XFG. What is protecting these populations? So far, we do not know! (F. Jonasson, Iceland)

  2. XFG/XFS therapy: As TGF-β-1 stimulates the production of excessive elastic microfibrils, the prostaglandin analogues may be of beneficial use as they reduce the concentration of the TGF-β-1 in the aqueous humor of patients with XFG/XFS. (S. Krag, Denmark)

  3. The true safety and effectiveness of generic medications cannot be certain without head-to-head clinical trials comparing topical ophthalmic brand-name drugs to their generic counterparts, but currently the data are limited. (J. Thygesen, Denmark)
