Professor Robert D. Fechtner

Professor Robert D. Fechtner, Executive Vice President

It is my pleasure, on behalf of the WGA Board of Governors, to wish all IGR readers a Happy New Year.

One of the goals of our Association is public awareness and recognition of glaucoma. The main annual platform for reaching this goal is World Glaucoma Week, which will be held for the seventh time this year. Please mark your calendar: March 9 to 15, 2014. The theme for this year is B-I-G: Beat Invisible Glaucoma! Along this theme we encourage you to organize B-I-G breakfasts, for instance within your hospital, for patients and relatives. More details about the 2014 theme, inspiring ideas of previous events organized worldwide and a Media Kit providing you with logo's, banners, slides to assist you in creating your awareness event, can be found via www.wgweek.net. Please do not forget to register your planned event on the WGW worldmap via www.wgweek.net. Any participation, starting from a local media interview to a big event country-wide is greatly appreciated. We can only make a difference and create worldwide impact by enhancing this activity together!

We are pleased to see that so many of you are taking advantage of IGR online. Web statistics show an average of 2500 unique visitors a month. IGR online provides you with the most complete collection of abstracts, including comments and references. If you are not yet using this tool and are not familiar with your user name (or have misplaced it), please send an email to info@e-igr.com.

Another WGA education tool is the opportunity to view a selection of the 5th World Glaucoma Congress sessions online via the WGA Educational Portal. WGC-2013 registered participants have free access to the Portal and can listen to and watch recorded sessions which they missed during the Congress. If you were unable to attend WGC-2013 and you would be interested in registering for the virtual meeting, please visit the WGA website (www.worldglaucoma.org) for all details and a sneak preview of one of the symposiums. As you probably know, the next World Glaucoma Congress will be held in Hong Kong from June 6-9, 2015. Do not forget to mark your calendar!

Please enjoy this IGR and let me know your thoughts regarding all WGA initiatives. You can reach me at (Fechtner@worldglaucoma.com). You can also contact our WGA Executive Office (info@worldglaucoma.org) if you need any information or have questions on IGR or WGA-related matters.
