OBJECTIVE: To study the value of combined examination of pattern electroretingrams (PERG), osillatory potentials (OPs) and pattern visual evoked potentials (PVEP) in diagnosis of open angle glaucoma in its early stage. METHODS: PERG, OPs and PVEP were examined in 12 cases (20 eyes) with suspicious open angle glaucoma, 32 cases (53 eyes) with open-angle glaucoma at an early stage, and 30 cases (60 eyes) of controls without glaucoma. RESULTS: The positive rate of PERG, OPs and PVEP in group of suspicious glaucoma was 50%, 20% and 15%, respectively. The positive rate of combined examination was 65%. In group with glaucoma in early stage, it was 62.26%, 45.28% and 28.30%, and the rate of combined examination was 85%. CONCLUSIONS: The positive rates of the combined examination of PERG, OPs and PVEP are higher than that of those examinations analyzed separately. Combined examination is more important in the diagnosis of open-angle glaucoma in early stage.LA: Chinese
