AIM: To investigate the efficacy of manual small incision extracapsular cataract extraction(ECCE) with IOL implantation combined with goniosychialysis for treating secondary angle-closure glaucoma with age-related cataract. METHODS: The method of manual small incision ECCE with IOL implantation combined with goniosychialysis was performed on 22 cases (27 eyes) with secondary angle-closure glaucoma and age-related cataract. The visual acuity, intraocular pressure (IOP), central anterior chamber depth, gonioscope observe the angle of anterior chamber and complications before and after operation were compared. RESULTS: The visual acuity of all cases was improved and the angle of anterior chamber opened or became wider after surgery. The IOP reduced from a preoperative mean of 25.81 (plus or minus) 2.90 mmHg to a postoperative mean of 14.57 (plus or minus) 4.78 mmHg, the anterior chamber depth increased from a mean of 1.22 (plus or minus) 0.35 mm to a mean of 2.35 (plus or minus) 0.26 mm. CONCLUSION: The method of manual small incision ECCE with IOL implantation combined with goniosychialysis is a good alternative for treating secondary angle-closure glaucoma with age-related cataract.
