OBJECTIVE: To investigate the short-term results of deep sclerectomy with Healon GV injection (DSH) in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG). METHODS: Nineteen eyes of 15 patients with POAG underwent DSH. Intraocular pressure (IOP), visual acuity (VA), filtering bleb, and anterior chamber condition were observed before and after surgery. RESULTS: The mean IOP decreased from a preoperative value of 27.6 ± 8.1 mmHg to a postoperative value of 15.2 ± 4.7 mmHg (p < 0.001). The success rate, which was defined as an IOP lower than 21.0 mmHg without and with medication, was 57.9 and 36.8% respectively. Postoperative complications included one case of hyphema and one case of flat chamber. CONCLUSIONS: Deep sclerectomy combined with Healon CV injection shows better control of IOP and fewer postoperative complications during short-term follow-up. LA: Chinese
