Glaucoma Care & the Health Care Dollar

Jack Cioffi

Jack Cioffi presented alarming data on the cost of health care in the US. At current rates, the health care costs will exceed per capita income.

  • 2006 (United States: USD):
    USD 829/month average family Health Care premium
    USD 308/month average single Health Care premium
  • By 2016 at current rates:
    Health Care premiums will exceed per capita income
  • Inequities and future challenges:
    Drugs cost the least for insured patients;
    Federal and State Governments provide pretax subsidies for middle and upper income;
    The uninsured population is growing;
    An aging population means more glaucoma patients.
