A new year with a new issue of IGR. 2013 will be a busy and important year for the World Glaucoma Association, with of course the next edition of World Glaucoma Week coming up, but also with the 9th Consensus Meeting and the World Glaucoma Congress in Vancouver.
World Glaucoma Week 2013 is planned from March 10-16. Your cooperation is kindly requested in order to create greater glaucoma awareness worldwide. I am sure you agree that this still is a very urgent issue to address and we hope we may count on your cooperation once more. For news, promotional materials, inspiring past WGW initiatives and to register your event or publication, please visit: www.wgweek.net. Please be sure to register your events so we can track activity around the world. Also refer to page 48 for more details on WGW-2013, by George Lambrou, representing the WGW Committee.
The 9th WGA Consensus Meeting will be held on July 16, 2013, one day before the start of the WGC. The topic this year is Childhood Glaucoma. The Consensus process will be led by Robert N. Weinreb, the Consensus Initiative chair. For more information and registration details, please contact the WGA Executive Office via info@worldglaucoma.org.
The abstract deadline for the 5th World Glaucoma Congress was: February 15, so please submit your contribution as soon as possible. If you have a scientific abstract, video presentation or grand rounds case we welcome your submission. Preparations for the educational program are in its final stage and will be published online soon. As in Paris we are planning a Surgery Day. On Wednesday July 17, many affiliated Glaucoma Societies have already taken the opportunity to organize their own symposium. On page 47 Tarek Shaarawy, one of the Program Committee Co-chairs will inform you on all ins and outs.
I am sure that you already know why Vancouver is such an incredible city to visit, especially in July. We are planning a WGC-2013 run, so remember to bring your running shoes!
Please enjoy this IGR and let me know your thoughts. You can reach me at Fechtner@worldglaucoma.com. You can also contact our WGA Executive Office (info@worldglaucoma.org) if you need any information or have questions on IGR or WGA-related matters.
