Dear IGR readers,
The World Glaucoma Association (WGA) continues to serve as a global platform uniting glaucoma societies, clinicians, and researchers worldwide. Through our educational programs, scientific initiatives, and international meetings, WGA remains committed to advancing glaucoma care, research, and professional development across all regions.
We are excited to share with you our ongoing and upcoming initiatives.
Supporting early-career professionals remains a key priority for WGA. We are proud to launch The AAB Research Mentorship Program for the first time this year. The Research Mentorship Program, led by the WGA Associate Advisory Board (AAB) is a year-long initiative that pairs young ophthalmologists and glaucoma specialists with leading international researchers.
Through structured mentorship, participants receive guidance throughout the research process—from study design to data analysis and scientific presentation. The program aims to build research skills, encourage international collaboration, and help emerging clinicians develop strong academic foundations in glaucoma.
We are excited to hear the experience of the three selected mentees, which will be presented during the 12th World Glaucoma Congress (WGC) in Kyoto, Japan.
We invite you to join the WGA Symposium at the European Glaucoma Society Congress 2026, taking place in Brussels, Belgium, on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 15:30–16:45.
The symposium will explore current challenges and future directions in glaucoma surgical training, bringing together international experts to share perspectives, experiences, and ideas.
WGA will also be present at the 40th World Ophthalmology Congress (WOC2026), with a dedicated session titled “Unraveling the Mysteries of Glaucoma: Challenging Cases” on Sunday, 28 June 2026, at 08:00–09:00.
Following the success of the 7th Surgical Grand Rounds, stay tuned for the upcoming 8th edition. In the meantime, the recording of the last Surgical Grand Rounds is now available on the WGA website.
Looking ahead into 2027, we invite you to save the date for the 12th World Glaucoma Congress (WGC) to be held in Kyoto, Japan, from April 20–23, 2027.
Registration and abstract submission will open in June 2026.
Best wishes and looking forward to seeing you at WGC-2027,
Kaweh Mansouri, MD MPH
Executive Vice-President
